Britain and Turkiye have signed a major new multi‑billion‑pound agreement that deepens their defence cooperation and advances last year’s £8 billion (US$10.73 billion) Typhoon fighter jet deal. The latest contract, confirmed on Wednesday, will provide extensive UK‑based training and support for Turkish pilots and ground crews as Ankara prepares to operate its first batch of British‑built jets.
According to the UK Ministry of Defence, the agreement includes training programs and technical support delivered by leading defence firms such as BAE Systems, Leonardo UK, MBDA, Rolls‑Royce and Martin‑Baker, which will supply key components and specialised equipment.
The deal was signed in London by UK Defence Secretary John Healey and Turkish Defence Minister Yasar Guler. British officials described it as a significant step in Turkiye’s integration into the Eurofighter program and a boost to NATO’s air power on its eastern flank.
The partnership marks the next phase of a rapidly strengthening defence relationship between the two countries, with both governments emphasising the strategic importance of enhancing regional security and modernising air capabilities.
