Chaos erupted in downtown Montgomery, Alabama, on Saturday night when rival gunmen opened fire in a crowded nightlife district, killing two people and injuring 12 others, police said.

The victims were identified as 43-year-old Shalanda Williams and 17-year-old Jeremiah Morris. Five of the wounded, including a juvenile, remain hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, according to Montgomery police.

The shooting broke out just blocks from the Tuskegee University-Morehouse College football game, which had drawn large crowds to the city. Investigators say multiple people fired weapons during the confrontation, leaving behind a complex crime scene.

As of Sunday afternoon, no arrests had been made. Authorities are appealing for public assistance to identify those involved.

Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed condemned the violence, vowing accountability not only for the shooters but also for anyone connected to the incident. “We’re not going just to stop with those folks that were pulling the trigger last night,” he said, adding that the gunmen “had no regard for human life.”

Police continue to review evidence and interview witnesses as the investigation unfolds.
