In a significant move, the interim government has announced a complete waiver of tuition fees for students injured in the recent July-August mass uprising, covering educational costs from secondary school through university, the Ministry of Education announced Tuesday.
Following a directive from the president, the Ministry outlined those students in all government and nongovernment schools, colleges, madrasas, and technical institutions—including universities—who sustained injuries during the protests are eligible for the waiver. To facilitate support, injured students are advised to submit a formal request for assistance to their respective institutions, according to the Ministry’s notification.
The decision mandates educational institutions to immediately waive tuition fees upon verifying each appeal’s legitimacy. Institutional authorities are instructed to expedite the implementation of this government decision.
Preliminary reports from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement’s health sub-committee indicate that over 31,000 students were injured in the upheaval, underscoring the scale of those potentially benefiting from this financial relief.
