U.S. President Donald Trump has announced plans to sell F-35 fighter jets to Saudi Arabia, revealing the news ahead of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s visit to the White House.
Last Friday, Trump said Saudi Arabia had shown strong interest in purchasing the advanced aircraft built by Lockheed Martin, noting: “They want to buy a lot of planes. They asked me to look into it. They want many ‘35s,’ and even more types of fighter jets.”
His comments come as U.S. media reports suggest Trump is leaning toward approving the sale. According to Bloomberg, citing an administration official, Trump and the Crown Prince may reach an agreement on the F-35 purchase during the upcoming visit.
The trip is also expected to include discussions on broader economic and defense deals, including a potential agreement related to liquefied natural gas (LNG).
