Trump Sends Another US Naval Fleet Toward Iran as Middle East Tensions Escalate

1 min read

US President Donald Trump has announced that another American naval fleet is being deployed toward Iran, marking the second major US maritime buildup in the region in just days. The move follows the arrival of the USS Abraham Lincoln and its accompanying warships in Middle Eastern waters earlier this week.

Speaking on Wednesday (28 January), Trump said, “Another beautiful fleet is sailing toward Iran,” expressing hope that Tehran would eventually agree to a deal with Washington. In an earlier interview with Axios, he claimed that a fleet “larger than the one sent to Venezuela” was already positioned near Iran.

Before being redirected, US warships had been stationed near Venezuela for several months. Media reports have since alleged that on January 3, US forces abducted Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro a claim that has not been independently verified. Shortly afterward, the USS Abraham Lincoln was ordered to move toward Iran.

The latest deployment underscores rapidly rising tensions between Washington and Tehran, with analysts warning that the presence of multiple US carrier groups in the region significantly increases the risk of confrontation.
