President Donald Trump said on Sunday that the US military is constructing a large underground complex beneath the new ballroom he is adding to the White House, describing the project as progressing ahead of schedule.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said, “The military is building a massive complex under the ballroom, and that’s under construction, and we’re doing very well, so we’re ahead of schedule.”
The president did not provide further details about the purpose, scale or timeline of the underground facility, but his remarks immediately drew widespread attention due to the secrecy surrounding major White House infrastructure projects.
