Trump Says He Will Visit Venezuela, Praises “Excellent” Ties With Interim Leader Delcy Rodríguez

US President Donald Trump says he plans to visit Venezuela, more than a month after the military operation that resulted in the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said he has a “very good relationship” with Venezuela’s interim leader, Delcy Rodríguez.

“I’m going to Venezuela,” Trump said. “I have a very good relationship with the current president of Venezuela. We work very closely under his leadership on oil extraction and marketing. I would give the current US relationship with Venezuela a 10 out of 10.”

When asked whether Washington formally recognizes Rodríguez’s government, Trump replied, “Yes, of course. We have already done that. We are in regular contact with them and they are doing a very good job now.”

Venezuela holds some of the world’s largest natural resource reserves, including an estimated 303 billion barrels of crude oil roughly one‑fifth of global reserves along with significant gold deposits, according to the US Energy Information Administration.

Rodríguez assumed the role of acting president within hours of Maduro’s abduction, following an order from Venezuela’s Supreme Court. Her rapid appointment marked a dramatic shift in the country’s political landscape, setting the stage for a new phase in US‑Venezuela relations.
