More than three and a half years into the Russia Ukraine conflict, U.S. President Donald Trump has called for a permanent peace agreement instead of a short-term ceasefire. He argues that only a long-term settlement can truly end the violence, while a temporary pause would fail to secure lasting stability.
Speaking at the White House after a 90-minute meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Trump said a ceasefire might stop the bloodshed immediately but would not guarantee enduring peace. He expressed confidence that a sustainable agreement is possible and could be reached in the near future.
Trump also emphasized the need for direct talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and President Zelensky, believing such dialogue is essential to building the foundation for a durable peace.
