U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered military strikes inside Venezuela, prompting President Nicolás Maduro to declare a state of emergency and accuse Washington of attempting to seize the country’s oil and mineral resources.
In a strongly worded statement, the Venezuelan government condemned the attack, saying:
“Venezuela strongly denounces and protests the disgraceful military aggression carried out by the United States on Venezuelan territory. We are formally bringing this incident before the global community and completely reject this act of aggression.”
According to CBS News, Trump authorized strikes on multiple sites, including Venezuelan military infrastructure. U.S. officials claimed Venezuela was producing narcotics and sending them to the United States an allegation Washington used to justify deploying warships and military equipment across the Caribbean.
The operation reportedly began with attacks on boats at sea before expanding into direct strikes inside Venezuelan territory.
