Trump Imposes 50 Percent Tariffs on India, Trade Talks Halted

1 min read

Recently, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a 50 percent tariff increase on Indian goods. Of this, 25 percent has already taken effect, with the remaining 25 percent set to be implemented from August 28. The move has put significant pressure on Indian exports, complicating the country’s trade relations.

In an unexpected development, the U.S. administration has halted all trade negotiations with India amid the tariff dispute, leaving the talks in deadlock. An ANI report cites Trump as saying that no discussions will resume until the tariff issues are resolved. When asked about the situation at the White House’s Oval Office, Trump clearly stated, “No, nothing will happen until this is resolved.”

He further emphasized that following India’s decision to double tariffs on its products to 50 percent, prospects for negotiations are now extremely slim. Last Wednesday, the White House issued an executive order specifically referencing India’s import of Russian oil, confirming that the total tariffs have reached 50 percent. This move marks a significant escalation in the ongoing trade tensions between the two nations.
