President Donald Trump reiterated his claim that US air strikes “obliterated” Iranian nuclear sites, dismissing recent reports that cast doubt on the extent of the damage. Speaking at the NATO summit in The Hague, he called an intelligence leak suggesting limited damage “fake news.”
“We hear it was obliteration, it was a virtual obliteration,” Trump told reporters. “Take a look at the ground above. Remember, the flame is all underground, but if you compare the before and after pictures, everything above is burned black.”
His comments follow a leaked preliminary US intelligence assessment indicating the strikes only delayed Iran’s nuclear program by less than six months. The assessment also revealed that underground structures at the sites did not collapse, and Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium was not destroyed. Some of Iran’s nuclear material may have already been moved to secret locations.
The Defense Intelligence Agency’s report remains preliminary, and officials say a clearer picture of the damage has yet to emerge.
