A wave of grief washes over Western Australia’s Southwest as the community mourns the heartbreaking loss of 15-year-old Caitlyn Bragger. The young girl’s vibrant presence and infectious humor left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her, now remembered through tearful tributes and heartfelt memories.
Caitlyn’s mother, Sarah Highwood, shared her profound sorrow and love, expressing that her daughter’s “presence lit up every space.” “I love you, miss you and want to kiss you,” she said, her voice tinged with the pain of an irreplaceable loss. The tragedy unfolded on Saturday night when a four-wheel drive, driven by a 16-year-old, veered off the road near Hoffman, about 150 kilometers south of Perth, and rolled multiple times. Caitlyn was among those in the vehicle, which was part of a camping trip at Logue Brook Dam.
The crash left five teenagers injured, with one requiring rescue from the wreckage by dedicated volunteer firefighters. Fortunately, four of the injured teens have since been discharged from hospital, while one remains hospitalized at Royal Perth Hospital for further treatment.
Loved ones remember Caitlyn as a girl whose kindness knew no bounds, whose sense of humor was truly one of a kind, and whose love for her family and friends was unwavering. Her passion for the outdoors was evident, whether she was camping, four-wheel-driving, or relaxing at the beach moments that brought her pure joy and a deep connection to nature.
Though her time with us was heartbreakingly brief, Caitlyn’s spirit endures through the memories she created and the lives she touched. Her legacy is one of love, laughter, and light a beautiful soul whose absence leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her. As the community grapples with this tragic loss, Caitlyn’s memory will remain a shining testament to a life cut short but never forgotten.
