A devastating crash on the Dhaka-Barishal Highway in Faridpur’s Bhanga upazila has claimed five lives and left four others injured early Wednesday morning. The incident unfolded around 7:30 am in the Babalatola area of Chumurdi Union, highlighting the ongoing dangers on busy national routes.
According to Bhanga Highway Police Station Sub-Inspector Md Mamun, the collision involved a passenger bus traveling from Barishal to Dhaka and a three-wheeler heading towards Madaripur’s Tekerhat. The impact was severe, resulting in the overturning of the three-wheeler on the road and the swift departure of the bus from the scene.
Authorities have confirmed the identities of three of the deceased: Mizanur Rahman, 45, from Chowkighata village in Gharia Union; Ibrahim Sardar, 70, and Monir Sardar, 45, both from Vayarchar village in Madaripur. The identities of the remaining two victims are yet to be confirmed.
Sub-Inspector Mamun reported that the three-wheeler was traveling towards Madaripur when the head-on collision occurred near the Babalatola bus stand. The bus, which was en route to Dhaka, fled the scene immediately after the crash, complicating the investigation.
The accident underscores the urgent need for road safety measures on the busy highways connecting vital regions.
