Three people have died in a serious car accident overnight in North Queensland. Emergency services responded to the scene on Mackay Ring Road in the suburb of Glenella around 10:30 pm following reports of a multi-vehicle collision.
Police say that a Mazda sedan, carrying two men and a woman all aged 19 was attempting to overtake a semi-trailer when it collided head-on with a ute traveling in the opposite direction. All three occupants of the Mazda were declared dead at the scene.
The driver of the ute, a 29-year-old man, sustained minor leg injuries and was taken to Mackay Base Hospital. The semi-trailer driver was unharmed.
The Forensic Crash Unit is now investigating the cause of the crash. Authorities are urging anyone with information or dash-cam footage related to the incident to contact police to assist with their inquiries.
