A devastating crash on Interstate 90 near Pembroke, New York, has left at least five people dead and dozens more injured after a tour bus returning from Niagara Falls lost control and overturned.

The bus, carrying 54 passengers, veered into the median before rolling into a roadside ditch. The impact shattered windows, ejecting several passengers onto the highway. Emergency responders described the scene as chaotic, with multiple fatalities, entrapments, and serious injuries. Children were among those on board.

Most of the passengers were of Indian, Chinese, and Filipino descent, according to officials. The driver survived and is cooperating with investigators, who believe they have a clear understanding of what caused the crash.

Six helicopters, including three from Mercy Flight, were dispatched to airlift the injured. Regional hospitals treated more than 40 victims, with injuries ranging from head trauma to broken limbs. Two patients who required surgery are expected to recover.

Authorities described the damage as extensive, calling it one of the most severe tour bus accidents in recent memory.
