Jurors in the trial of Rajwinder Singh, accused of murdering Cairns woman Toyah Cordingley, have been shown CCTV footage of his movements in the hours before her death.
Singh, a 41-year-old former nurse from Innisfail, has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Cordingley, 24, who was found dead at Wangetti Beach on October 21, 2018.
Police compiled CCTV and traffic camera footage by tracking a blue Alfa Romeo registered to Singh. The vehicle first drew police attention after phone tower data suggested Cordingley’s phone had moved from Wangetti Beach to Caravonica on the afternoon she died.
The footage presented in the Supreme Court in Cairns showed Singh’s car leaving Innisfail just after 10 a.m. on October 21. Cameras later captured him walking out of Innisfail Woolworths, dressed in a light-colored striped polo shirt, grey shorts, and thongs.
By midday, Singh was seen arriving at Cairns Central Shopping Centre, where he sat down for a meal.
The trial continues, with prosecutors using the footage to establish Singh’s movements on the day Cordingley was killed.
