Australian power-hitter Tim David delivered one of the most explosive innings of the IPL season, smashing an unbeaten 70 off just 25 balls to propel Royal Challengers Bengaluru to a commanding 43‑run win over Chennai Super Kings. His late‑overs assault turned a strong total into a monstrous one, lifting RCB to 3‑250, the third‑highest score in the franchise’s history.
Bengaluru’s top order laid the platform early, with Phil Salt (46 off 30) and Virat Kohli (28) adding quick runs before Salt combined with Devdutt Padikkal (50 off 29) for a 56‑run stand. Padikkal then accelerated further, hammering 58 off 21 balls with captain Rajat Patidar (48 off 19)* as RCB surged past 150 inside 14 overs.
But the real carnage began when David joined Patidar. The pair blasted 99 runs off just 35 balls, dismantling Chennai’s attack. David survived being bowled off a no‑ball on 28 and made full use of the reprieve, reaching his fifty in 21 deliveries and smashing 30 runs in a single over off Jamie Overton. RCB plundered 97 runs in the final five overs, leaving CSK shell‑shocked.
Chennai’s chase faltered early as they slumped to 5‑84, though Sarfaraz Khan (50 off 25) mounted a brief resistance. The five‑time champions were eventually bowled out for 207 in 19.4 overs, suffering their third straight defeat and dropping to the bottom of the table.
RCB, meanwhile, climbed to the top with back‑to‑back wins and a surging run rate.
Earlier in the evening, Australian opener Travis Head endured a night to forget as his Sunrisers Hyderabad fell to Lucknow Super Giants on the penultimate ball. LSG skipper Rishabh Pant anchored the chase with a composed 68 off 50*, sealing their first win of the season.
