Three Hospital Managers Arrested Over Negligence in Lucy Letby Case

1 min read

British police have detained three senior managers from the hospital where Lucy Letby was convicted of murdering babies, on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter, officials announced.

Letby, 35, is currently serving a life sentence after being found guilty of killing seven newborns and attempting to murder eight others between June 2015 and June 2016 at the neonatal unit of the Countess of Chester Hospital in northern England. Throughout her trial, she maintained her innocence but was denied permission to appeal and told she will never be released.

Following her conviction, police launched an investigation into potential corporate manslaughter at the hospital, which later expanded to examine if individuals could be guilty of gross negligence manslaughter. Detective Superintendent Paul Hughes, leading the inquiry, confirmed that three unnamed senior hospital staff members were arrested on Monday. They have since been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

“The investigation into both corporate manslaughter and gross negligence manslaughter remains ongoing, and there are no set timescales for these processes,” Mr. Hughes stated. The investigation continues as authorities seek to determine whether systemic failures contributed to the deaths.
