Thousands Evacuated as Philippines Hit by Fourth Typhoon in a Month

1 min read

As Typhoon Toraji struck near Dilasag town, around 220 kilometers northeast of Manila, thousands in the Philippines sought shelter amid heavy rains and powerful winds.

Ports shut down, and approximately 7,000 people were evacuated from flood and landslide-prone areas in Aurora and Isabela provinces.

Toraji brought winds of 130 km/h, toppling trees, cutting power, and blocking major roads. Authorities closed schools and offices in affected areas, while coastal warnings kept nearly 700 passengers stranded at ports. The typhoon is expected to move into the South China Sea by late Monday, though another storm could potentially approach later this week.

Following three recent deadly cyclones, this latest storm highlights the Philippines’ vulnerability to severe weather events, a trend worsened by climate change.
