A young woman has died in a late‑night crash in Derby, more than 2,000 kilometres north of Perth, after the four‑wheel drive she was travelling in rolled on Thursday night.

Police say the 18‑year‑old passenger was inside a 4WD carrying four people when the driver allegedly lost control on the mudflats beside Rowan Street at around 9:45pm. The vehicle rolled, fatally injuring the teenager.

Emergency crews responded to the scene, but the woman could not be saved. The condition of the other occupants has not yet been detailed, and investigators are now working to determine what caused the driver to lose control.

The remote Kimberley town has seen a number of serious incidents in recent months, and police are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or has dash‑cam footage to come forward as the investigation continues.
