Sydney’s $700m Fish Market Redevelopment Nears Completion, Opening Date Pending

The long-awaited Sydney Fish Market redevelopment is set to hit a major milestone next month, with construction on the $700 million project expected to wrap up. However, an official opening date for the landmark Blackwattle Bay venue has yet to be confirmed.

Once operational, the new market is projected to draw more than six million visitors annually almost double the foot traffic of the existing Pyrmont site. Premier Chris Minns said the development would become “a magnet” for tourists and a “must-see destination.”

“We expect a lot of visitors who come to Sydney to spend an extra day as they take a cooking class, enjoy a meal or watch a sunset,” Minns said.

Lands and Property Minister Steve Kamper confirmed the site would be handed over to operators in mid-November for the fit-out of 40 retail stores. He said the new facility would transform Sydney’s waterfront and deliver a major boost to tourism.

Sydney Fish Market CEO Daniel Jarosch emphasized that Thursday’s announcement was about celebrating the completion of construction rather than confirming an opening date. “We’re celebrating the progress on the fit-out of 40 stores,” he said, adding that the official launch date would be announced soon.
