A casual teacher at a Sydney private school has been charged with grooming a teenage girl and accessing child abuse material after detectives from the NSW Police Sex Crimes Squad raided his Beecroft home early this morning.
Police arrested Benjamin David Collinge, 29, who had been working as a casual teacher at Newington College. Officers arrived at his home around 5:45am as part of an investigation led by the Child Abuse Investigation Unit.
Detectives allege Collinge attempted to persuade a 14‑year‑old girl he met on social media to send sexually explicit images in exchange for money. Police say the girl was not known to him, and Newington College has confirmed that none of its students were involved.
Acting Commander Superintendent Karl Leis said investigators would allege Collinge pretended to be a teenager online. “We will allege that this particular 29‑year‑old purported to be a 17‑year‑old boy, bearing in mind that the child is 14,” he said.
Collinge is expected to face court as the investigation continues.
