The Sydney Book Fair, hosted by Ekushey Academy Australia, has been a hive of activity at Ashfield Park all day. In observance of International Mother Language Day, this event has been held every year for the past 25 years.
On March 3, Sunday, the popular writer and managing editor of Prothom Alo, Anisul Haque, was the special guest. The book fair started in the morning with the biggest ‘Probhat Ferry’ in the last few years.
About 25 socio-cultural-political organizations in Sydney participated in the ‘probhat ferry’. Later, Anisul Haque also inaugurated the book fair. The organizer of the book fair is Abdul Matin, the president of Ekushey Academy Australia.
A large number of literature-loving visitors, book-loving buyers, children, teenagers, and youth participated in the fair.
The book covers of 12 Sydney expatriate authors were unveiled at the presentation of literary Shakhawat Nayon. On the occasion of the book fair, a magazine called ‘Matri Bhasha’ was published under the editorship of the literary.
In commemoration of the great language movement, there were cultural programs, dances, songs, poetry recitations, stage plays, etc.
Under the direction of Nirmalya Chakraborty, the drama caught everyone’s attention. At the same time, the conversation of Sydney’s famous columnist Ajay Dasgupta with the literary Anisul Haque brought a different literary juice to the audience.
For the first time, the founder of the Sydney Book Fair, Nehal Neyamul Bari, received the ‘Language Day Lifetime’ award, and Anisul Haque and Srabanti Kazi received the ‘Language Day’ award.
Everyone received the honor from Allama Siddiqui, the high commissioner. The Bangladesh Consul General of Sydney, Sakhawat Hossain, and distinguished local representatives were present.
The fair was sponsored by the local media outlet, Probhat Fery, the editor of the media, Srabanti Kazi, and the prominent entrepreneur Sulaiman Ashrafi Dewan played a vital role in organizing the fair.
