Supermarket Owner in Darwin Killed After Confronting Thief

The owner of a supermarket in Darwin’s northern suburbs has been fatally stabbed after reportedly confronting a thief at his store on Wednesday afternoon.

NT Police confirmed that 71-year-old Linford Feick, owner of the Territory Friendly Grocer on Progress Drive in Nightcliff, was attacked with an edged weapon shortly after 5:15 pm. The incident occurred when an unidentified male was suspected of stealing items from the supermarket.

According to police, Feick approached the suspect, asked him to return the stolen goods, and was then allegedly stabbed with a weapon before fleeing the scene on a bicycle. Customers inside the store quickly provided first aid and called emergency services, but unfortunately, Mr. Feick could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say they believe they have identified the suspect and are actively working to locate him. The investigation is ongoing as police continue their efforts to apprehend the offender.
