In a disturbing incident that has shaken Khulna University, students took to the streets on Friday night to protest after a lecturer was reportedly physically assaulted by a former student. The attack occurred near the academic building around 10 pm, leaving the campus community outraged and demanding justice.
Witnesses identified the victim as Hasan Mahmud Saky, a lecturer in the Department of History and Civilization, who also serves as the assistant director of student affairs. The assailant was reportedly Abdullah Noman, a former student from the 2018 batch. Following the assault, Saky was taken to Khulna Medical College and Hospital for treatment. The motives behind the attack remain unclear at this time.
In response to the incident, students declared Noman persona non grata on campus for life and called for swift disciplinary action against him. The university community expressed their condemnation of the attack, emphasizing its gravity.
Khulna University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md Rezaul Karim condemned the assault, describing it as a “vile and disgraceful act” that is “completely unthinkable” in the institution’s 35-year history. He emphasized that an attack on a teacher is an attack on the entire academic community and assured that the university administration will take all necessary measures to ensure the attacker faces appropriate punishment.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage and calls for heightened security to protect faculty members and students alike.
