Students Disperse to Stadium Market After Clashes Near Secretariat

2 min read

On Tuesday afternoon, students relocated to the Stadium Market area near Gulistan after police used baton charges, sound grenades, and teargas shells to disperse them from the Secretariat. Law enforcement officers have now positioned themselves near Noor Hossain Chattar at Zero Point, while students continue to block a significant part of Gulistan’s road network, disrupting traffic in the area.

The confrontation erupted earlier in the day when protesters breached Gate Number One of the Secretariat, demanding justice over a recent aviation incident involving students from Milestone College. They also called for the resignation of Education Adviser CR Abrar, accusing him of delaying the suspension of the HSC examinations.

As students entered the Secretariat compound, police responded with a forceful crackdown, using batons, teargas, and sound grenades, which scattered the protesters and caused chaos in the vicinity. The remaining protesters later regrouped on the main road in front of Stadium Market, where police again fired teargas shells and sound grenades to disperse them. In response, protesters threw stones and bricks at law enforcement.

Security has been increased around the Secretariat, with police, RAB, Coast Guard, and BGB personnel deployed near Gate Number One. Meanwhile, traffic on the road adjacent to the Secretariat has resumed.
