The student union has announced a new program with several demands including curfew withdrawal, and stopping mass arrests.
On Friday (August 2), after protesting at the central Shaheed Minar, student union president Ragib Naeem said that if the demands are not met by next Sunday (August 4), a mass rally will start from the National Press Club at 3 pm on that day.
The demands are an end to mass arrests, trial of the July massacre, release of detained students, withdrawal of curfew, opening of all educational institutions, and resignation of the government for the killing of students.
In the president’s speech, Anu Muhammad, a retired professor of the economics department of Jahangirnagar University, said that the demand of all the people in today’s rally is that this government should resign. The power of the people should be brought to the people.
Public hygienist Mushtaq Hossain, Dhaka University teacher CR Abrar, development economics researcher Maha Mirza, teachers Rehnuma Ahmed, Asif Nazrul, Samina Lutfa, writer Syed Manjurul Islam, former president of CPB Mujahidul Islam Salim and many others participated in the march.
