The Chief of Bangladesh’s Air Force, Air Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan, embarked on a significant multi-day visit to Saudi Arabia and the UAE on Sunday, aimed at bolstering defense relations with these key Gulf states.
Upon his arrival in Riyadh, Khan is set to engage in discussions with high-ranking officials from the Royal Saudi Air Force, including his counterpart, Lt. Gen. Turki bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz. His itinerary includes visits to various RSAF bases, underscoring the importance of this diplomatic mission.
According to Lt. Col. Sami Ud Dowla Chowdhury, Director of the Bangladesh Armed Forces’ public relations division, this visit is poised to enhance defense cooperation between Dhaka and Riyadh. “Khan will explore opportunities for joint exercises and training, paving the way for closer collaboration between our air forces,” he stated.
The foundation for this partnership was established in 2019 when Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia signed an agreement aimed at advancing military cooperation. This trip is seen as a crucial step in furthering those efforts.
Following his engagements in Saudi Arabia, Khan will proceed to the UAE on February 14 to meet with Maj. Gen. Staff Pilot Ibrahim Nasser Mohamed Al-Alawi, where they will discuss various bilateral issues of mutual interest.
Chowdhury emphasized the significance of both Saudi Arabia and the UAE in the Gulf region, noting, “We have enjoyed excellent relationships with both countries. With this visit, we anticipate a further enhancement of our defense cooperation.”
