Southern and eastern Australia are bracing for a second burst of summer-like heat, even though spring is barely halfway through. The Bureau of Meteorology forecasts extreme temperatures and elevated fire danger across multiple states.
In the Nullarbor region near the Western Australia–South Australia border, temperatures are expected to hit 41°C on Saturday a staggering 16°C above the October average. Ceduna in South Australia will reach 36°C, also well above seasonal norms.
The heat will shift eastward over the weekend and into early next week. Forecasts show Adelaide reaching 29°C on Saturday, Melbourne 28°C on Sunday, and Sydney climbing to 29°C on Sunday and up to 30°C on Monday. Brisbane will see temperatures rise to 34°C early next week.
The surge in heat is driven by hot air sweeping down from northern Australia, ahead of a cooler, wetter system currently affecting Western Australia.
Authorities have issued high fire danger warnings across several regions, urging residents to stay alert as the unseasonal warmth intensifies.
