Sixth largest fire in California history continues

The park fire, which burned 370,237 acres, has been the sixth-largest wildfire in California history, The fire has destroyed 100 structures and threatens thousands more, according to Cal Fire.

The fire burned throughout the night Sunday into Monday, particularly on ridges and slopes in the area, CalFire said in an update. The fire has already spread to four California counties and was only 12% contained as of Monday afternoon local time.

There are currently 4,876 personnel and 98 firefighters, 33 helicopters, 434 fire trucks, 166 bulldozers, and 116 water carriers involved in fighting the blaze. More than 100 homes and businesses were destroyed and thousands of people were evacuated.

States of emergency were declared in Plumas, Butte, and Tehama counties in north-central California. Thousands of residents have been forced to flee their homes by the massive Park Fire, which authorities believe was started by arson.

The blaze broke out Wednesday near Chico, California, scorching thousands of acres by the hour, destroying dozens of buildings and leaving a graveyard of burned trees and cars.
