At a time when technology is shrinking distances and strengthening global connections, a new initiative has emerged in Australia to make everyday life easier for Bangladeshi expatriates. The digital platform, Shetu‑AU, was officially launched on 29 March at a vibrant ceremony held at the Rydges Hotel in Campbelltown, Sydney.
Community leaders, professionals and distinguished guests attended the event, welcoming the app as a timely and meaningful step toward improving access to information and services for Bangladeshis living in Australia.
The chief guest, Bangladesh High Commissioner to Australia F. M. Borhan Uddin, congratulated the founders of Connect Bangladeshi Diaspora Pty Ltd. (CBD), the developer of Shetu‑AU. He said the app would not only support the daily needs of expatriates but also create new opportunities for trade, employment, and knowledge exchange between Bangladesh and Australia.
Special guests included Shelly Salehin, Consul General at the Bangladesh Consulate in Sydney; Md Jahangir Alam Khan Rana, Consul; and Sabrina Faruqui. Other notable attendees were Councillor Masud Chowdhury, Ibrahim Khalil Masud, Ash Rahman, Mohammad Zaman Titu, Abdul Khan Ratan, Alamgir Islam, Kamal Pasha, and several community members.
Speakers highlighted that the Shetu App will enhance communication, information sharing and access to essential services for Bangladeshi expatriates. They noted that the platform would be especially valuable for the younger generation and newly arrived migrants, serving as an effective digital bridge within the community.
The event concluded with optimism that Shetu‑AU will play a significant role in strengthening unity, progress and digital empowerment among Bangladeshis in Australia.
