A man in his 20s is recovering in stable condition following a shark attack off Moreton Island, located north of Brisbane. Emergency services responded to the incident shortly after 3 PM on Saturday, near the Wrecks Walking Track.
According to a spokesperson for Queensland Ambulance Services, the victim sustained bites to his leg and abdomen. He was promptly airlifted to Brisbane’s Princess Alexandra Hospital for treatment.
David James, director of Tangalooma Island Resort, expressed relief upon learning that the injuries were not life-threatening. “We’re really happy it only appears to be a minor bite; he’ll make a full recovery,” he said. “That’s the best outcome possible with any of these sorts of incidents.”
This attack follows a tragic incident just weeks earlier, when teenager Charlize Zmuda lost her life due to a shark attack at Bribie Island on February 3, heightening concerns about shark safety in the region.
