In a compelling twist that could reshape the upcoming Pakistan Super League season, Bangladesh’s former cricket captain and legendary all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is reportedly on the radar of the Lahore Qalandars. The franchise has expressed a keen interest in signing the seasoned star, fueling anticipation among cricket fans eager to see the iconic player back in the T20 spotlight.
A high-ranking official from Lahore Qalandars confirmed their interest but clarified that no formal agreement has been reached yet. “There is interest in him, but nothing is final. We will share updates about our overseas players once everything is confirmed,” they told this publication.
Shakib, now 37, has previously showcased his talents in the PSL with stints at Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings. Currently residing abroad, he finds himself unable to return to Bangladesh due to security concerns linked to his political association with the ruling Awami League, which was ousted during the July–August movement.
The last competitive appearance by Shakib was in November of the previous year, when he played for Bangla Tigers in the Abu Dhabi T10 League, leaving fans hopeful for a return to the T20 arena.
As the PSL prepares to resume on Saturday, 17 May, after a pause caused by recent cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan, the tournament is poised for a thrilling conclusion. The Pakistan Sports Board has announced that the final will take place on 25 May at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. The remaining group-stage matches will be hosted at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, while the playoffs and final are set to take place amid the vibrant cricketing atmosphere of Lahore.
