Sydney has faced a relentless bout of severe weather for the second straight day, resulting in significant disruptions across the city and southeastern Australia. The intense storm has led to dozens of flight cancellations, fallen trees, and power outages affecting thousands of homes.
According to the airport’s website, Australia’s major airlines, Qantas and Virgin Australia, have canceled at least 55 domestic flights in and out of Sydney on Wednesday. Some international services are also experiencing delays. Ground transportation has been heavily impacted, with Sydney’s train services disrupted and officials advising residents to avoid non-essential travel.
Conditions are expected to worsen throughout Wednesday before the storm system begins to weaken and moves into the Tasman Sea, heading toward New Zealand on Thursday. The New Zealand’s National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research has warned that the low-pressure system could bring heavy rain and strong winds to the North Island later this week and into the weekend.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, urging residents to stay safe and prepared as the storm passes.
