A Russian missile attack late on Friday on port infrastructure near Ukraine’s Black Sea port of Odesa killed seven people and injured 15 others, Ukrainian officials confirmed.
Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kuleba said on Telegram that Russia launched ballistic missiles at port facilities in the Odesa region during the late evening hours. Odesa regional governor Oleh Kiper reported the same casualty figures, noting that the strike caused significant damage to critical infrastructure.
A source familiar with the situation said the attack targeted Pivdennyi, one of the region’s three major ports and a key hub for Ukrainian grain exports.
Odesa Under Intensifying Fire
Odesa has been a frequent target of Russian strikes since the full‑scale invasion began in February 2022, due to its strategic importance for Ukraine’s agricultural and commercial exports.
In recent days, the intensity of attacks has increased. A separate strike damaged a bridge southwest of Odesa, severing a major route between the city and the Danube River port of Reni, complicating border crossings into Moldova and Romania.
