Actress Sarah Jessica Parker has provided an update on the potential sequel to the 2022 fantasy comedy film, Hocus Pocus 2, directed by Anne Fletcher, according to People magazine. The sequel continues the story of the beloved 1993 classic Hocus Pocus, which was originally directed by Kenny Ortega with a screenplay by Mick Garris and Neil Cuthbert.
Disney first announced that Hocus Pocus 3 was in development two years ago. However, Parker revealed that there have been no significant new developments, aside from expressing her interest in the project. “No more developments, other than we would like to do it,” she said.
Parker, who portrayed Sarah Sanderson alongside Bette Midler’s Winifred and Kathy Najimy’s Mary in both Hocus Pocus and Hocus Pocus 2, added, “We would like to do it, and we’ve been having some conversations.”
In 2023, Disney’s President of Motion Pictures Production, Sean Bailey, shared that a third film was indeed in the works. Meanwhile, screenwriter Jen D’Angelo, who worked on Hocus Pocus 2, mentioned in October 2023 that the team is exploring various aspects of the story and planning exciting adventures for the characters. She emphasized that the project is still in its early stages and that the creative team is mindful of what fans want, cautioning against catering solely to fan expectations without a clear direction.
Bette Midler, who played the iconic Winifred Sanderson, mentioned in July 2024 that she’s aware of a script that “should be forthcoming,” but added she hasn’t been paying close attention to the ongoing developments.
Overall, while enthusiasm for a third installment remains, the project is still in the formative phases, and fans will have to wait a bit longer for official confirmation.
