Russian Missile Strikes Kill at Least Three in Kyiv as Nationwide Air Alert Issued

2 min read

Russian strikes on Kyiv and surrounding suburbs have killed at least three people, according to the city’s mayor, as Ukraine’s air force issued a countrywide missile warning on Friday.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said three people were killed and six wounded, with three of the injured requiring hospitalization. Regional authorities urged residents to remain in shelters until air raid sirens stopped.

Ukraine’s air force announced that “all of Ukraine is under a missile threat” after confirming that Russian bombers were airborne and preparing to launch additional strikes.

Critical Infrastructure Hit in Lviv

In the western city of Lviv, local officials reported that critical infrastructure had been struck. Emergency crews were deployed immediately, with fires being brought under control.

Warning Came Hours After U.S. Alert

The attack followed a rare public warning from the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv, which cautioned that a “potentially significant air attack” could occur within days. President Volodymyr Zelensky echoed the alert in his nightly address, urging citizens to remain vigilant.

Tensions Rise Over Post‑War Security Plan

Just hours before the strikes, Moscow condemned a proposed post‑war security plan that includes deploying European peacekeepers to Ukraine. Russian officials labeled Kyiv and its Western partners an “axis of war.”

European and U.S. envoys have been engaged in intense diplomatic negotiations to finalize a framework aimed at ending the nearly four‑year conflict.

The latest version of the proposal includes:

  • A U.S.-led monitoring mechanism
  • A European multinational force to be deployed once hostilities cease

Zelensky said the agreement was “essentially ready for finalization at the highest level” following recent talks in Paris. Details regarding the size, mandate, and operational rules of the proposed force have not yet been disclosed.
