Russian Attacks Kill at Least 18 Civilians in Ukraine as Zelensky Seeks More Western Support

Russian drones, missiles, and artillery struck Ukraine on Tuesday, killing at least 18 civilians and injuring over 100 others, Ukrainian officials reported. As President Volodymyr Zelensky prepared to meet Western leaders at a NATO summit in The Hague, he sought assurances of continued military aid to bolster Ukraine’s fight against Russia’s ongoing invasion.

Throughout the nearly four-year conflict, Russian forces have relentlessly targeted civilian areas across Ukraine. The United Nations estimates that more than 12,000 Ukrainian civilians have lost their lives in the war. Ukraine has also responded with long-range drone strikes against Russian targets, hitting residential zones.

Zelensky’s critical meeting with Western allies aims to secure additional military assistance amid concerns over dwindling support. Key US commitments made during the Biden administration are expected to expire within months, raising questions about future aid, especially with uncertainty surrounding whether then-President Donald Trump would provide more support.

In a devastating attack, a Russian ballistic missile struck the central Ukrainian city of Dnipro around midday, killing nine people and injuring more than 100. Nearby, in the town of Samar, an attack claimed two lives and wounded 11, according to regional officials.

The barrage caused extensive damage, destroying 19 schools, ten kindergartens, a vocational school, a music school, a social welfare office, and eight medical facilities. One of the explosions shattered windows on a passenger train, highlighting the widespread destruction inflicted on civilian infrastructure.
