Russia Unveils Successful Test of Nuclear Powered Burevestnik Missile

2 min read

President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia has successfully tested the nuclear-powered cruise missile Burevestnik, also known as the 9M730. Russian officials claim the missile can evade any air defense system in the world and strike its target with precision. Putin confirmed that the country will now move toward deploying this advanced weapon.

Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov briefed Putin on the October 21 test, reporting that the missile traveled 14,000 kilometers, or about 8,700 miles, and remained airborne for nearly 15 hours. NATO refers to the weapon as the SSC X 9 Skyfall. Russia insists the missile is invincible against both current and future missile defense systems.

Putin, dressed in military uniform during a command point meeting, described the Burevestnik as a unique weapon unmatched by any other nation. He recalled that some Russian experts once doubted the project could be realized, but the successful trial has now proven otherwise.

According to Russian statements, the Burevestnik has virtually unlimited range and can alter its flight path mid course to strike targets unpredictably. This capability, they argue, makes it a strategic game changer in global military balance.

The announcement underscores Moscow’s determination to showcase its technological edge in strategic weapons. While international observers remain cautious about the full extent of the missile’s capabilities, Russia has positioned the Burevestnik as a symbol of its military innovation and resilience.
