Russia Pounds Kharkiv With Day‑Long Drone Barrage Strikes Ignite Fires, Injure Civilians as Attacks Spread Across Region

Russian forces unleashed a relentless wave of drone strikes on Kharkiv throughout Thursday, hammering Ukraine’s second‑largest city and injuring at least two people, local officials said. Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported impacts across four districts, posting updates on Telegram well into the night as explosions continued to shake the city.

One city official said Kharkiv had endured at least 20 drone impacts, with several strikes sparking fires. Public broadcaster Suspilne reported fresh blasts after 2 a.m., underscoring the intensity of the overnight assault. Terekhov confirmed that an evening strike injured two people, including an eight‑year‑old girl.

Reuters footage from the scene showed firefighters battling flames at a damaged residential building, its façade torn apart and apartments left in ruins.

Further south in Zaporizhzhia, regional governor Ivan Fedorov said a Russian attack damaged a high‑rise building and a local business, though no injuries were reported.

Across the border in Russia’s Belgorod region, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said 13 people were injured in a series of Ukrainian drone strikes, most of them in the border village of Shebekino.

In Moscow, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said air‑defense units intercepted a Ukrainian drone heading toward the capital after midnight. Two additional drones were shot down earlier on Thursday.

As both sides escalate their use of drones, the cross‑border strikes highlight a conflict that is becoming increasingly unpredictable and increasingly difficult for civilians to escape.
