In a fierce overnight assault, Russia launched a new barrage of drones and missiles across Ukraine, targeting mainly the western regions and causing significant destruction and casualties. At least two people were killed when Russian forces struck the city of Chernivtsi near the Romanian border.

Western Ukrainian cities including Lviv, Lutsk, and Chernivtsi were the hardest hit, with other regions also suffering damage, according to Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha.

“Russia continues to escalate its terror, launching hundreds of drones and missiles, damaging residential areas, and killing and injuring civilians,” Sybiha stated in a post on X, emphasizing the ongoing threat and calling for stronger sanctions against Moscow. He added, “Russia’s war machine produces hundreds of means of terror every day. Its scale threatens not only Ukraine but the entire transatlantic community.”

In Chernivtsi, regional governor Ruslan Zaparaniuk reported that two people lost their lives and 14 others were wounded when Russian drones and a missile struck the city, which lies about 40 kilometers from the Romanian border. Several fires broke out, and residential and administrative buildings were damaged.

Meanwhile, in Lviv, near the Polish border, Ukrainian officials said that the attack damaged 46 homes, a university building, city courts, and around 20 small and medium-sized business premises, according to Mayor Andriy Sadovyi. The strikes continued to underscore the ongoing escalation of Russia’s campaign against Ukraine, causing widespread destruction and loss of life.
