Russia launched five missile strikes on Ukraine’s second‑largest city, Kharkiv, on Monday, damaging key energy infrastructure, while also attacking a US‑owned Bunge agricultural facility in the southeastern city of Dnipro, Ukrainian officials confirmed.
Kharkiv: Energy Systems Hit, Civilian Injured
Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said the strikes were aimed at crippling essential services:
“Not just an attack on facilities. It’s an attack on heating, on water, on people’s normal lives. They are trying to break us with fear and darkness.”
The regional prosecutor’s office reported that at least one civilian was injured in the attack.
Dnipro: 300 Tons of Sunflower Oil Spilled
In Dnipro, a strike on the Bunge enterprise caused a spill of 300 metric tons of sunflower oil, according to Mayor Borys Filatov.
Cleanup crews are spreading sand and gravel, and a major riverside road is expected to remain closed for two to three days.
A Bunge spokesperson said the company is assessing the damage and working with local authorities to reduce the impact, noting that no injuries occurred at the facility.
Ukraine: Russia Is Targeting American Businesses
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said the attack was deliberate:
“Russia has been targeting American businesses in Ukraine systemically.”
He added that the strikes show President Vladimir Putin’s “complete disregard” for peace efforts led by US President Donald Trump.
Diplomatic Context
The attacks come shortly after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met President Trump in Florida to discuss ending the war. More than 30 world leaders are expected to attend a Ukraine summit in Paris on Tuesday.
Moscow has not yet commented on the strikes.
