Riverland Man Faces Major Indictable Charges After Arrest; CFS Monitors Nearby Katarapko Island Fire

1 min read

Police say a 49‑year‑old Riverland man was located in a river around 6pm on Thursday, shortly before being taken into custody.

The accused, Samuel Papst, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today via video link, choosing not to apply for bail. Magistrate Jay Pandya told the court that all 10 charges Papst is facing including two dating back to 2025 constitute a “major indictable set of charges.”

Papst is scheduled to return to court in May for charge determination.

Meanwhile, the Country Fire Service (CFS) remains on scene at a fire burning on Katarapko Island, roughly 11 kilometres south‑west of Berri. Authorities say it is too early to determine whether the fire is connected to the man’s arrest.
