Rain played a spoilsport from day one in Brisbane and didn’t relent on the final day either. India needed 275 runs to win, but the weather and the threat of lightning forced an early end to the match, resulting in a draw.
Despite the Indian bowlers’ impressive performance, persistent rain on the fifth day thwarted any decisive outcome. Set a target of 275, India began their chase and reached 8 runs without loss when the rain returned, leading to the umpires declaring a draw. The series remains tied at 1-1 as both teams prepare for the next Test in Melbourne.
Australia had posted a formidable 445 in their first innings, powered by centuries from Steve Smith (101) and Travis Head (152). Jasprit Bumrah took six wickets, while India ended their first innings at 260, trailing by 185 runs. Akash Deep contributed with 31, and Bumrah remained unbeaten on 10.
In their second innings, Australia adopted a cautious approach. Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney aimed to stabilize, but Khawaja was bowled at 8, and Marnus Labuschagne fell for 1, both to Bumrah. Akash Deep removed McSweeney for 4 and Mitchell Marsh soon after.
Mohammed Siraj joined the wicket-taking spree, dismissing Steve Smith. Rishabh Pant was instrumental behind the stumps, taking four catches, with Khawaja being the only batsman bowled. Australia stumbled to 33 for 5 before Travis Head and Alex Carey took the score past 50. Their partnership reached 60 before Head was sent back by Siraj.
Captain Pat Cummins played a brisk innings, hitting 22 off 10 balls, including two sixes and two fours, before falling to Bumrah. Australia declared, setting India a target of 275. However, rain intervened just as India began their chase, leaving the series intriguingly poised for the next encounter.
