India’s political climate has grown increasingly tense amid allegations of vote rigging and voter list manipulation. Adding fuel to the fire, Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has claimed he possesses evidence so explosive that, if revealed, Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be unable to face the nation.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the “Voter Rights March” in Patna, Bihar, Gandhi announced that his party would soon release what he described as a “hydrogen bomb” of proof to expose large-scale electoral fraud. He alleged that votes were stolen during both the Maharashtra state elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, specifically pointing to irregularities in the Bengaluru Central constituency. According to him, Congress has already demonstrated how such malpractice occurred in the Mahadevapura assembly segment.
BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad dismissed Gandhi’s remarks as irresponsible, questioning the logic of comparing elections to a “hydrogen bomb” and accusing the opposition leader of diminishing his own stature.
Earlier in August, Gandhi stated that his party had spent six months scrutinising the Mahadevapura voter rolls, uncovering over 100,000 anomalies. These, he claimed, included duplicate entries, false addresses, and other irregularities that he believes were used to manipulate the outcome in favour of the ruling party.
The allegations have intensified the political battle lines ahead of upcoming state elections, with both sides preparing for a fierce confrontation over the integrity of India’s democratic process.
