Quota protesters block Shahbagh

1 min read

Students and job seekers blocked the Shahbag intersection in Dhaka to implement their ‘Bangla Blockade’ program on Thursday, demanding logical reform of the government job quota system.

They were supposed to gather in front of Dhaka University’s central library at around 3:30 pm, but they were delayed due to rain.

While several thousand demonstrators marched towards the busy intersection, a large number of the police took the position there, erecting barricades to resist the blockade program.

At one stage, the protesting demonstrators broke the barriers and blocked Shahbagh around 5:10 pm.

Hours before, activists and leaders of the Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of the ruling Awami League, also gathered at Madhur Canteen.
