Queensland to Decide Future of $35 Million Music Festival Site

The Queensland government will determine the fate of a proposed 35 million dollar music festival site after part of its development application was called in to accelerate the process.

The Comiskey Group submitted two development applications to the Sunshine Coast Council in 2022 for a site at Coochin Creek, located on Roys Road, six kilometers west of the Bruce Highway.

Deputy Premier and Planning Minister Jarrod Bleijie has formally addressed the Sunshine Coast Council’s chief executive, John Baker, regarding one of the applications for the festival site. Bleijie announced he will call in the application for the tourist park component, which covers 43 hectares and proposes 75 cabins and 75 campsites at 1807 Roys Road.

The second application, which could host up to 35,000 attendees at six music festivals annually, remains under consideration for a potential call-in.

Owned by brothers Rob and David Comiskey, the Comiskey Group operates multiple entertainment and hospitality venues across Queensland, including Eaton’s Hill Hotel, Sandstone Point Hotel, and The Doonan.

If approved, the proposed Coochin Fields festival site roughly the size of 22 football fields would become one of Australia’s largest festival venues. The group envisions hosting “Coachella-style” events and lifestyle exhibitions, such as camping and caravanning shows.
