Queensland MP Jimmy Sullivan Expelled from Labor Caucus

Queensland MP Jimmy Sullivan has been expelled from the state parliamentary Labor caucus and will now sit on the crossbench. This decision followed an extraordinary meeting of Labor MPs in Brisbane, where Opposition Leader Steven Miles moved a motion to oust Sullivan.

Sullivan, a second-term MP representing the electorate of Stafford since 2020, has faced uncertainty regarding his political future since late last year. He was directed to take leave by Miles until “legal and medical matters” were resolved.

After the caucus meeting, Miles announced that the motion, seconded by Deputy Leader Cameron Dick, was passed with unanimous support from all MPs, except Sullivan. Subsequently, the administrative committee of the Labor Party removed Sullivan’s endorsement as a Labor MP.

Miles emphasized that no form of injustice, corruption, or abuse of power would be tolerated within the party. He accused Sullivan of failing to comply with a “safe return to work plan” and not providing regular health status updates as required

Sullivan, however, has refuted these claims, describing the motion as “completely untrue” and a “cheap political move.” He asserted that he had complied with all requirements and expressed his deep commitment to the Labor Party.
