Qantas will shut down staff bases in Canberra, Hobart and Mildura in 2026 as part of a plan to consolidate its operations in larger hubs.
The airline confirmed the decision after a review launched last month, saying the move will allow it to concentrate crews in its busiest ports and respond more quickly to disruptions, reducing delays and cancellations for passengers.
Qantas said the review and consultation process showed that consolidating staff in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane would strengthen its overall performance.
The closures will affect about 70 pilots and cabin crew. QantasLink said those employees will be offered a comprehensive support package, enabling them and their families to remain in their home cities while working out of a major base.
The package includes confirmed flight support, allowances to help with accommodation, and rostering assistance for at least two years after the bases close.
