The United States has criticized President Vladimir Putin’s comments that Russia is ready for nuclear war. Responding to Washinton’s criticism, the Kremlin said Thursday that Russian President Vladimir Putin had not threatened to use nuclear weapons in an interview with state media.
In an interview with Russian media on Wednesday, Putin said Russia is strategically prepared for nuclear war. If the United States sends troops to Ukraine, it would be considered a significant extension of the ongoing conflict.
Criticizing Putin’s comments, White House spokeswoman Karin Jean-Pierre told reporters Washington understands the Russian leader has reaffirmed Moscow’s nuclear doctrine. President Putin has spoken of “reckless and irresponsible” nuclear weapons throughout the Ukraine conflict.
